Lawmakers Want Answers After OU, EMU Hike Tuition Above State Cap
LANSING (WWJ) - State lawmakers want to question the presidents of Eastern Michigan University and Oakland University about big tuition hikes taking place this fall.
According to a report in The Detroit Free Press, OU raised its tuition by almost 8.5 percent, while EMU upped its rates almost 8 percent.
Next week, those schools will have to explain why they violated Michigan's 3.2 percent cap on tuition hikes.
The expected increase in revenue for the two schools outweighs the state performance aid it is foregoing by exceeding the tuition cap.
