Truck Hauling More Than 100 Hogs Rolls Over In Southwest Michigan

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP/WWJ) - Authorities say a semi truck hauling more than 100 hogs rolled over in southwestern Michigan, trapping many of the animals inside.

WSJM-FM reported traffic was tied up for several hours following the crash at around 7 p.m. Monday on Napier Ave., off I-94., Benton Township.

According to WNDU-TV our of Indiana, crews worked to remove hogs from the trailer. In all, the stations say about 140 hogs were in the trailer at the time of the crash.

The driver wasn't injured, but several of the hogs were killed. None of the animals escaped, according to the driver.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear, although the driver said he'd been trying to make a left turn when it happened. Police in Benton Township say the Berrien County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation.

The Associated Press left a message Tuesday seeking updated information.
