Police Warn Oakland University Students To Be Vigilant After Recent Sexual Assault

ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) - Police at Oakland University are warning students about a recent sexual assault that occurred on campus after a woman was allegedly attacked by a man she met through social media.

The incident reportedly happened around 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 inside of a vehicle near the Ann V. Nicholson student apartments.

Police say a female student met the suspect through social media and willingly entered his vehicle prior to the assault. After the incident, the woman went to a hospital for an examination and reported the assault anonymously.

Investigators say the suspect isn't a student at OU and the attack doesn't appear to be random. However, police believe he could be a potential threat to the campus community. He was described only as a man of Middle Eastern descent, driving a black car.

Police are reminding students to stay vigilant and be aware of their surroundings. Students should utilize the "visual escort" program for walking to classes, they said, and always meet unfamiliar people in public areas.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity on campus or who has any information about the suspect in this case is urged to contact police at 248-370-3331.
