Poll: 3 Out Of 4 Detroiters Support Recreational Drug Use

DETROIT (WWJ) - How likely is it that Michigan voters would support recreational dope any time soon?

The poll was conducted by Lansing-based Marketing Resource Group. Spokesman Dave Doyle was it produced some interesting results.

In a straight out survey - the numbers come out dead even -- 46 percent of those asked said 'yes' to recreational marijuana for those age 21 and over -- while another 46 percent said 'no.'

But when it came to those who were more likely to vote on a potential ballot issue ... the numbers turned to 'no' by a 52 to 42 percent margin.

Doyle tells WWJ's Sandra McNeill that's because those most likely to vote are older.

"What's really interesting is that those who grew up in the 50's and 60's - particularly the 60's - a time when there seemed to be more drugs and rock-n-roll - they are definitely opposed to this," said Doyle.

The strongest support for recreational dope comes from the city of Detroit at 75 percent.
