Family Of Man Mauled By Dogs Open Account For Medical Needs

DETROIT (WWJ) - The victim of a 2014 dog attack is still too traumatized to talk about the incident, but he and his family are ready to get back to living.

Steven Constantine survived a brutal mauling by almost a dozen pit bull dogs. But surviving the attack meant the loss of most of his left arm, his left leg below the knee and his left ear last fall.

Catherine Constantine says that the cost for prosethics is astronomical; she says her brother's insurance won't cover the cost, and the family's finances are already tapped.

"They have digital arms, digital hands, which Steve is a candidate for," says Catherine.

Steven Constantine will now need round-the-clock care for the rest of his life.

In May, a judge awarded $100 million to Constantine in a civil lawsuit, but he's not expected to collect that amount.

To help cover the cost there's now a Go Fund Me account and a trust fund established at Huntington Banks in Steven Constatine's name.

Derrick Feltman pleaded guilty to keeping dangerous animals. The 61-year-old Detroit man was sentenced to two years probation on Friday.
