Warren Home Explodes; Officials Work To Determine Cause

WARREN (WWJ) -- Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a house explosion in Warren on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived on the scene of a house engulfed in flames and were able to put out the fire at the house on Harold near Hoover.

Fire Chief David Frederick said that after talking to neighbors it appears that the one-story home exploded.

"The house is still standing," Frederick said. "Crews were inside -- they haven't said whether it's a total loss, they haven't said what it is. But the house isn't going to be able to be inhabited, at this point in time, until somebody fixes it."

No one was inside at the time of the explosion, but a neighbor rescued the homeowners' two dogs from the backyard. Consumers Energy says there is no sign of an exterior gas leak in the neighborhood.

Fire investigators, along with crews from Consumers Energy and DTE, are on the scene trying to figure out the origin of the fire.
