Woman Found Dead In Filthy Home Surrounded By Raccoon, Several Other Animals
WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Waterford Township police are investigating the death of a 47-year-old woman whose body was found inside a home so filthy and covered with feces, officials say its uninhabitable.
The woman was found dead around 5:30 p.m. Thursday at a home in the 5000 block of Ridgetop Drive, near Crescent Lake and Highland roads.
Officers say they responded to the home after being contacted by the homeowner, who was concerned about the woman. She had been living in the home temporarily.
When officers arrived on the scene they found the woman, along with nearly two dozen animals -- including cats, kittens, rabbits, a dog, a bird and a raccoon -- all surrounded by filth. Oakland County Animal Control was called to assist with removing the animals.
Officials say the home's interior "was uninhabitable with feces and urine throughout the residence."
It's unclear how long the woman might have been dead. Authorities have not yet indicated her cause of death, but said she was not eaten by the animals. An autopsy is expected to be performed Friday. The woman's name has not yet been released, but reports say she is from Clarkston.
Waterford Township Building Officials will clean and evaluate the home to determine if it can be livable again.
Police are asking anyone who might have information on the case to contact detectives at 248-618-6042.
