Officials: Woman Found Among Animals In Filthy Home Died Of Drug Abuse

WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities say a 47-year-old woman whose body was found inside an Oakland County home with nearly two dozen animals died from apparent drug abuse.

Tracey Woodcox was found dead around 5:30 p.m. Thursday inside a home in the 5000 block of Ridgetop Drive, near Crescent Lake and Highland roads in Waterford Township. She had been living in the home temporarily.

The 55-year-old homeowner told police that she found Woodcox deceased in a bedroom when she went to the home. Officers found Woodcox, along with nearly two dozen animals — including cats, kittens, rabbits, a dog, a bird and a raccoon — all surrounded by filth. Oakland County Animal Control was called to assist with removing the animals.

Officials say the home's interior "was uninhabitable with feces and urine throughout the residence."

The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office said Woodcox's immediate cause of death was drug abuse, although the manner has not yet been determined.  Investigators anticipate receiving the toxicology report within two to three weeks.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-618-7515, or submit an anonymous tip to 248-674-COPS.
