With Strike Looming At Fiat Chrysler, UAW Warns Workers Not To Take Company Supplies

DETROIT (WWJ) - As a midnight strike deadline looms over the contract talks between Fiat Chrysler and the United Auto Workers --instructions are being given to workers addressing how to leave, and what not to take if a strike should happen.

The UAW has posted 'solidarity' memes and information for union workers to know their rights on Facebook.

UAW sources tell WWJ that only a few plants would strike at midnight -- those include Trenton Engine and Warren Stamping.

In Lansing, the feeling is wait and see:

"I'm not overly concerned," said Republican Chair of the House Budget Committee, Al Pscholka, who is monitoring the talks unfolding in the auto industry.

A strike such as the one in 1998 (54 days) Pscholka admits "would have an impact on state services and cuts would have to be made possibly in school aid and other state programs."

He and others are hoping there will not be a strike and that the appropriations folks won't have to face that prospect again as they did 17 years ago.

Union members rejected a tentative agreement with Fiat Chrysler last week - setting the stage for a possible strike.

A show of support evident on social media for the union workers:

"This International Association of Fire Fighters member stands with UAW International Union. It is always my hope as a Laborer that the collective bargaining process prevails. However, should your membership move to strike, I'll gladly give my time to walk a line at Jefferson North. Autoworkers, Firefighters, Teachers, Pipefitters, Electricians; We are all Labor," posted David Micallef.

"Thank you Brother" was the reply to several supportive comments. "This local 685 member appreciates the support. Let's stand together in solidarity."

In the wings are Ford Motor and General Motors waiting for this agreement to be hammered out before beginning their own union contract talks.
