HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) - A Harrison Township man accused of severely beating an elderly woman could possibly spend the rest of his life behind bars after being charged with attempted murder.

Macomb County Sheriff's Office said the incident unfolded around 11 p.m. Wednesday when they received a 911 call from a home in the  38000 block of L'Anse Creuse, in a neighborhood off 16 Mile Road just east of I-94.

Deputies had been made aware of previous calls to the same address involving a man living in the home -- 48-year-old Brad Stephen Haynie.

Deputies arrived on the scene and found the caller, a 75-year-old woman, had been severely beaten. After a quick search, deputies located Haynie in the basement of the home. He was holding a pocket knife with the blade open, according to police.

At that time, deputies disarmed Haynie and took him into custody.

The woman was transported by ambulance to McLaren Hospital in Mt. Clemens for treatment of injuries to her face and head. Her relationship to Haynie was not immediately disclosed.

Haynie was video-arraigned in the 41B District Court of Clinton Township Friday on a charge of assault with intent to murder. He was ordered jailed on a $150,000 and is due back in court on October 21.
