Michigan Deputy Shot With Crossbow While Serving Arrest Warrant; Suspect Dead

CATO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A 40-year-old Michigan man has been shot and killed by a state trooper after the man wounded a sheriff's deputy with a crossbow arrow.

State police Lt. Kevin Sweeney said the trooper and a Montcalm County deputy were serving an arrest warrant Friday at the man's Cato Township home, about 50 miles northeast of Grand Rapids, when they were shot at with a crossbow.

The deputy was struck in the side by an arrow. He was taken to a hospital and was reported in stable condition Saturday following surgery.

The suspect was shot at least once by the trooper and died at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

The trooper was uninjured.

Sweeney said the trooper has been with the state police about two years and has been placed on administrative duty while the shooting is being investigated.
