Christopher Columbus Statue In Detroit Reportedly Vandalized With Bloody Ax [PHOTO]

By Christy Strawser

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) Eighty years ago when the feds decided to set aside a Monday to honor Christopher Columbus, the man celebrated for discovering the New World, they probably didn't think it would become controversial.

Fast forward a few decades and Columbus isn't exactly a hero to everyone anymore.

Many would argue he discovered a place that was already known and populated, and ushered in an era when the people native to the land were abused and then slaughtered.

And this is how some people in Detroit apparently feel about him.

A bloody ax was reportedly stabbed into the head with a trail of red paint sliding down his torso. The statue is just outside the Renaissance Center in Detroit.

The photo was posted on Imgur.
