DeAndre Levy Re-Injured Hip Sunday; Could Be Sidelined Longer

The DeAndre Levy watch is officially back on.

Levy made his season debut Sunday against the Cardinals, after being out of practice from late August until about two weeks ago. But he left the game early, after "tweaking" the same hip that kept him out for so long.

And now head coach Jim Caldwell admitted the possibility that Levy could be out for another extended period of time this season. When asked if it was a possibility Levy could be shut down for the remainder of the season, Caldwell deflected to the team doctors.

"Yeah, I think the doctors will make the final determination on that," he said. "They'll look at him closely, they'll make some evaluation and see where he is."

Levy was evaluated by doctors on Monday, as are most of the Lions' players after a Sunday game.

"We look at every situation purely from a medical standpoint and what's best for the young man," Caldwell said. "Can he function and perform and do his job, plain and simple."

In Levy's place this season has been linebacker Josh Bynes, who passionately addressed the team on Sunday amidst what has become a disaster of a season for the Lions. Bynes finished with three tackles Sunday.

Behind Bynes, the linebacker corps isn't exactly the deepest on the team. Kyle Van Noy, who was drafted in the second round last year, was made inactive on Sunday after steadily creeping down the depth chart all year.

"I think that it took Levy a few years to get to the point where obviously he was a very, very consistent guy," Caldwell said. "I think that's the norm and so I think he's still on track."
