Mom Becomes Irate At Hospital Worker's Response To Her Daughter's Bruised, Battered Face

It was an incident at school, one that obviously shouldn't have happened, but the response from a hospital worker made it even worse, according to one mother from Columbus, Ohio.

A mother brought her 4-year-old to the hospital after an incident with a boy at school left her with an obvious injury to her face. A little boy had allegedly punched her in the eye.

The child had to get stitches to close a gash near her eye.

And the hospital worker allegedly told the girl, "I bet he likes you."

Mom posted her response on Facebook, along with a message to the hospital worker saying, "In that moment, hurt and in a new place, worried about perhaps getting a shot or stitches you were a person we needed to help us and your words of comfort conveyed a message that someone who likes you might hurt you."

It goes with the age-old belief that young boys that tease a girl, pull their hair, trip them on the playground, are paying attention because they have a crush on the girl. It's an antiquated belief that some believe can foster a lifelong misunderstanding about the root causes of domestic violence.

And the mother's complaint is something the hospital is taking seriously, they say.

A spokeswoman at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, said they reached out to the family, met with the employee and their management team, as well as leadership in order to "understand the situation and take measures to prevent this from happening again."

"Although we know the comment was made with no malicious intent, it is our wish to apologize and express to you that this is something we are taking seriously. This comment does not represent our philosophy as an institution," the hospital said in a Facebook statement.
