No Bond For Ex-Con Accused Of Killing Girlfriend In Royal Oak

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - A 49-year-old man accused of killing his girlfriend inside her Royal Oak home has been ordered held without bond.

David Douglas Davis appeared in court Thursday where he was arraigned on first-degree murder and firearms charges in connection with the death of 50-year-old Theresa Diamos.

"At far as bond is concerned, based on the nature of this crime I'm remanding you to the custody of the Oakland County Sheriff's Department and I'm setting no bond at this time based on the charge of murder," said District Judge Derek Meinecke.

Davis kept his head down throughout the hearing, his sniffles audible on the court microphone. He stood mute except when asked, twice, if he required a court-appointed lawyer, which he said he did. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

Diamos was found dead in the couple's home on N. Altadena, between 11 and 12 Mile roads, after neighbors heard gunfire at around 3 a.m. Monday.

Davis, who was arrested at the scene for illegal possession of a firearm, initially told responding officers that an intruder broke into the home and killed his girlfriend. Investigators, though, said there was no evidence to substantiate that story.

Davis is due back in court for a probable cause conference on Oct. 23, with a preliminary exam scheduled for Oct. 30. If convicted as charged, Davis faces life in prison.

According to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Davis has previously served time for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, and assault and battery.

Royal Oak Police say Diamos' death is their first homicide investigation this year.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 248-246-3528.
