Detroit Man Fatally Struck By Passing Vehicle After Being Knocked Unconscious In Fight

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Police say a 58-year-old man has died after he was knocked unconscious during a fight then accidentally struck by vehicle in Detroit.

The incident happened around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday  near Winchester and John R., in a neighborhood just west of 8 Mile Road and I-75.

Sgt. Cassandra Lewis told The Detroit News that the victim was fighting with a 44-year-old man when things took a turn for the worse.

"The suspect hit the victim so hard he was unconscious," she said. "He fell back in the street and was hit by a vehicle."

Lewis said the driver stopped and helped detain the 44-year-old man until police arrived. He remains in custody and is expected to face charges.

The victim was declared dead at the scene.

Names of those involved weren't immediately released.
