UAW Approves New Contract With Fiat Chrysler

DETROIT (WWJ) - Fiat Chrysler workers have said yes to their new four-year contract.

The United Auto Workers says 77-percent of the automaker's production workers approved the deal Thursday morning. That number included 87 percent of represented salary workers said yes and 72 percent of those in skilled trades.  Eighty-four percent of production workers at a stamping plant in Sterling Heights, Michigan, also voted yes.

UAW President Dennis Williams called the vote a "testament to the UAW's democratic value, while Fiat Chrysler says the deal is an investment in the company's workforce.

The union will turn its attention to Ford and General Motors. It has not yet been said which one will take the lead.

The new agreement gives raises to all workers and eliminates the two tiers over eight years.
