1 Dead In Royal Oak Shooting That Closed Neighborhood Streets For Hours

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - One person has died from wounds suffered in a shooting early Monday morning in Royal Oak.

Police say a 28-year-old Madison Heights man has died at Beaumont Hospital - a victim in the early morning shooting at a home on the corner of Linden and Fern street in Royal Oak in the area of 12 Mile and Rochester roads.

"About 1:33 this morning we received a call from Beaumont Hospital that they had a patient come into the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds -- further investigation revealed that the event occurred in the city of Royal Oak - the 2800 block of Fern Street," said police Lt. Dave Clements.

"I just received word as I was walking up here, that the victim did pass, he died at hospital," he said.

The tense police situation that went on for hours involved several squad cars, a SWAT team and eventually Animal Control.

Just after 10 a.m. authorities gave an update on the situation saying that the man in the hospital had died and would not confirm the suspect was captured but said residents did not have to worry about their safety in this situation.

Police said Animal Control was called in to remove an animal from the house in order to preserve the crime scene.

Police say they are following up on leads.
