When you think of the term "Sparty" and are a Michigan State fan, does that bother you?
Mike Valenti isn't offended by it, but personally I am. I feel when a Michigan fan calls a Spartan fan "Sparty" they are taking a shot at the fans. It's meant to be sarcastic.
Terry Foster agrees, telling Valenti using the term 'Sparty' is a dismissive way for Michigan fans to say 'little brother' without actually using those words. I
Foster: "Michael, and I say this with all respect to you and all Spartan fans out there, you guys are stupid, you are, you've been setup by Michigan fans who are basically calling you colored and "little brother" without saying it and you don't even get it. Here is what has happened to you, here is why Spartan fans are dumb. Michigan fans, after you started kicking their ass in football, they brought up a new word, that's not new, that I've never heard you guys called before, and it's Sparty. It's a derogatory term for Spartan fans, and you guys don't even get it. And Michigan people are laughing because they slid it on you and some of you even say it now. "Sparty", you're not "Sparties" you're not a "Sparty" you are Spartans. Here's my proof, I've been following this rivalry, or whatever you want to call it, ever since I was a young colored chocolate boy in Detroit.
Valenti: "Oh my god you can't say that on the air."
Foster: "I just said it damn it and if you bleep it I'm going to pop you in the mouth, I've been watching Michigan-Michigan State from the 70s, the 80s, the 90s the o-o's, 2005 whatever. I never ever, ever heard them call you Sparty, mow they might call you chumps, they said you over reacted they said you were punks, they would call you all kinds of names, they never called you sparty until you started kicking your ass in football, and they knew the term little brother, even though some of the stupid ones still use it angered you, it fueled Mark Dantonio it fueled that program.
After you realized little brother got you in trouble all of the time you came up with the term "Sparty", you say it in the most derogatory way. It's a term Michigan fans created to get under your skin and you don't even get it."
Valenti: "It's the name of our mascot, I guess I should throw out the Nike T-shirts I have that feature "Sparty" on it, uh oh -- I guess I am wearing a derogatory term."
