DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Pottery Barn Kids has is recalling certain water bottles because they may contain too much lead.

The paint on the outer metal portion of some of the company's Avengers and Darth Vader bottles may contain lead in excess of federal lead paint standards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The company says the "mouthable area of the water bottle" (plastic lid and mouthpiece) and the inside of the bottle do not contain any lead.

This recall applies only to water bottles (pictured above) with the Avengers characters design and the Darth Vader Death Star Wars design. The affected bottles were sold in stores and online from June 2014 through September 2015.  No other Pottery Barn Kids water bottles are subject to the recall.

Those who purchased or received one of these bottles can return it to the nearest Pottery Barn Kids store or call the company toll-free at 1-844-421-8062 from 7 a.m. to midnight ET daily, for a refund or replacement water bottle — plus a $20 Pottery Barn Kids gift card.
