Michigan Matters Focus: Detroit, DPS, Gov. Snyder And More

It was talk about helping the Motor City which dominated as John Carter, Michigan Market Leader for JPMorgan Chase,  appeared on CBS62's "Michigan Matters" to talk with host Carol Cain about the company's $100 million investment in the region.

Carter, described in a recent Crain's Detroit Business report as the most connected person in the state in its list of the 100 most influential people, hails from Metro Detroit. He said during taping he is most optimistic about Detroit with so much going on.

He talked about Detroit Service Corps which is a five-year program that is part of their investment. It leverages their employees' skills to help nonprofits  in Detroit. A team of 12 JPMorgan Chase managers  has been in Detroit and will remain through Saturday. They have been helping Greening Detroit, TechTown, EcoWorks and Eastern Market. The employees have come from as far  away as Australia, India, and England.

Melissa Greer, of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America --Michigan Chapter, and Sandro DiNello, president/CEO of Flagstar Bank, appear with Carol Cain to talk about making Metro Detroit healthier and an upcoming event to raise money for CCFA.

Sandro DiNello, president and CEO of Flagstar Bank,  talked about his company's commitment to Detroit and  the region, Headquartered  in Troy, the company has been growing and recently opened a new branch in Detroit.

DiNello appeared with Melissa Greer, of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America -- Michigan Chapter, to raise awareness about an upcoming  fundraising event  Nov 12 at Emagine Theatre in Royal Oak. The event -- which benefits the CCFA -- will  feature dinner, a silent auction,  movies and more.

DiNello, who discovered he had the disease in his 20s, has been a champion  for research and raising money. He is being honored at the Nov. 12  CCFA event.

Then Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, longtime newspaper columnist Pete Waldmeir, and DiNello continued the conversation as they discussed  the latest presidential GOP debate held this week.

Patterson, who has endorsed Jeb Bush, admitted his stamp of approval had more to do with his longtime relationships with George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

DiNello, who has not endorsed any candidate,  said he could not possibly support Hillary Clinton, who is running on the Democratic side because of her position on the banking industry.

Waldmeir discussed the Detroit Goodfellows' holiday campaign now underway. The effort includes giving over 30,000 packages for children who otherwise would not receive a holiday gift. It includes individually decorated dolls,   blue jeans, books and  much more.

The Detroit Goodfellows is an annual staple of the region.

Waldmeir, the late former Mayor Coleman Young,  the late Wayne County Executive Ed McNamara are among  the thousands and thousands who have given back to the organization that provided them gifts when they were young and otherwise would not have received a holiday gift.

The Detroit organization will  distribute the holidays packages in December.
