Troy High School Student Hospitalized, Driver Arrested After Hit-And-Run

TROY (WWJ) - A driver who fled that scene after hitting a high school student on a bike Friday morning is now in police custody.

The 17-year-old boy was hospitalized after being struck at 7:10 a.m. as he was crossing Northfield Parkway at Perrin Street, heading westbound toward Troy High School.

"He was struck by a white SUV — possibly a GM product — that was traveling southbound on Northfield Parkway from the school," Captain Robert Redmond said.

As witness told police he believed he'd followed that SUV out of the school parking lot after dropping off his kids. Police were reviewing the school's security camera footage later morning.

Police at the scene later confirmed that a male suspect, who may have been driving without a valid license, was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. His vehicle was impounded.

Redmond said the student was in serious condition. His name has not been released.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is urged to call police.
