DuCharme Place: 185-Unit Apartment Development Coming To Detroit's East Side

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Another new residential development project is coming to the downtown Detroit area.

A groundbreaking is scheduled Friday for the $45 million, 185-unit DuCharme Place in Lafayette Park, just outside downtown on the city's east side.

The development will include studio and one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 500 to 1,100 square feet and priced from $900 to $1,800 per month. Floor plans and more details of the development are to be revealed Friday.

The city says DuCharme Place will be the area's first new lifestyle community in 40 years. It will include secured, enclosed parking, gourmet kitchen appliances, a large fitness center and a swimming pool.

Construction is expected to be completed by the middle of next year.

A separate groundbreaking was held last month for the $65 million Orleans Landing mixed-use development along Detroit's east riverfront. The first phase of that project is expected to include about 270 residential units and space for retail. Orleans Landing construction is expected to finish in April 2017.
