Growing List Of Retailers Will Be Closed On Thanksgiving Day

DETROIT (WWJ) - A growing list of retailers say they'll be close on Thanksgiving, reversing a recent trend that had angered both employees and deal-hungry shoppers who wanted to spend the holiday with family.

More than 40 names are on the list, including AT&T, Bed Bath & Beyond, Cabela's, Gardner-White Furniture, Home Depot, and IKEA.

But Cherese Stewart of Waterford doesn't mind working on holidays.

"Baby, when it come to money I work everyday," said Stewart. "Everyday. As long as they are going to give me a little overtime. You know, I like that overtime. I don't see nothing wrong with Thanksgiving -- we should be thankful for giving and getting a job."

Stewart says when she works a holiday--her family just moves any celebration so it doesn't conflict with her work hours.

The online site Black Friday has a growing list of stores that will be closed on Thanksgiving (and ones that will be open).

Marcus Gaddis of Detroit wants the stores to be open on Thanksgiving day.

"Lot of people got late-comers, lot of people got like to go out and pick up things at the last minute - I think they should be open for that reason," said Gaddis.
