Teen, 2 Men From Metro Detroit Charged In $500K North Carolina Jewelry Heist
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WWJ/AP) - Two men and a 16-year-old boy from metro Detroit have been arrested and charged in connection with a jewelry store robbery in North Carolina.
Twenty-year-old Malik Hideo McCrary, of Detroit; 27-year-old Maurice Angelo Pearce Jr., of Pontiac, Michigan; and a 16-year-old Detroit boy are each facing one felony count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one felony count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The robbery happened Sunday night at Jared Galleria of Jewelry in Asheville.
Arrest warrants state that the men allegedly stole large amounts of jewelry and diamonds, with an estimated value of $500,000. The warrants also accuse the suspects of threatening to use weapons they had in their possession, including mini sledge hammers and a gun. Six people were inside the store at the time.
After the robbery, the suspects led police on a chase that ended on the interstate after their vehicle ran over stop sticks. The suspects then took off running. Three were apprehended; a fourth person is still on the loose.
McCrary, Pearce and the unnamed teenager are being held on $1 million bonds in North Carolina. It wasn't clear if they have attorneys.
