Garden City Woman Allegedly Raped By Intruder As Husband, Kids Slept In Other Rooms

GARDEN CITY (WWJ) - Garden City police are searching for the suspect who sexually assaulted a woman during a terrifying attack inside her own home.

The incident happened during the early morning hours Tuesday at a home on Arcola Street, about a block off of Inkster Road.

Police say the suspect broke into the home through an unlocked back window as the victim was sleeping on a couch in the living room. The suspect ambushed the victim and allegedly held a knife to her throat while he raped her, threatening to kill her if she made any noise. When he was finished, the suspect allegedly threatened to come back again if the woman told anyone about the attack. He then fled the scene.

The woman's husband and kids, who were sleeping just feet away in other rooms of the house, were not injured in the attack.

The woman said the suspect's face was partially covered, but police were able to obtain evidence at the scene that is currently being processed. Investigators are reportedly working on a sketch of the suspect.

Detectives say homeowners should remember to lock all doors and windows.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact police at 734-793-1700.
