Michigan Man Sentenced In Deaths Of 3 Found In Burned-Out Car
MANISTIQUE, Mich. (AP) - A man who pleaded guilty in the deaths of three people whose bodies were found in a burned-out car in Michigan's Upper Peninsula has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The Daily Press of Escanaba reports Garry Cordell learned his punishment on Thursday in a Schoolcraft County court. He earlier pleaded to murder charges in the deaths of 31-year-old Carrie Nelson, 25-year-old Heather Aldrich and 42-year-old Jody Hutchinson.
They were found April 17 in Doyle Township, 70 miles southeast of Marquette. Police have said the motive appears to be drug-related.
Had Cordell chosen not to plead guilty, it is possible he would have been found guilty of lesser charges by a jury. Instead, his guilty pleas guaranteed him life in prison.
