The Value of Lifelong Learning

Fact: every child deserves the right to a quality education; but how long does that education last? Until they receive their high school diploma? Bachelor's degree? Or Doctorate? Or . . . forever. We should not be putting a cap on achievement, setting our children up to measure success around obtainable credentials, and essentially lowering the bar on how we learn.

In the same way teachers mustn't teach to the test, parents mustn't teach their children for the sake of testing. We want our kids to grow in every aspect of their lives which means we need to demonstrate the value of lifelong learning in our everyday actions as mom or dad.

From reading the labels at the grocery store to ensure your young ones better understand nutrition to helping your high schooler manage their first paychecks; the value of learning must come from home.

Detroit Parent Network's Parent University program offered to Detroit Public Schools Parents provides a variety of classes such as: Autism Awareness, Internet Safety, Eat Healthy, Be Active, Navigating Mental Health, Money Management, and much more to ensure Parents continue to their education and empower their children to never stop learning.
