Daimler Trucks To Invest $375M For Engine Production, Add Jobs In Redford

DETROIT (AP) - Daimler Trucks plans to invest $375 million to bring production of medium-duty engines to its manufacturing facility in the Detroit area.

Daimler Trucks says the new production at its Redford Township facility will add more than 158 jobs. The announcement was made Friday in conjunction with the launch of production of the company's Detroit DT12 automated manual transmission.

The company was holding a "Built in Detroit" event to mark the latest updates. Wolfgang Bernhard, Daimler AG's board member responsible for trucks and buses, says in a statement that the slogan represents "our commitment to strengthen the industrial base in Detroit."

Daimler Truck North America vehicles will be available with medium-duty engines by the end of 2016 and full production will take place in Michigan by the end of 2018.
