Act Of Kindness Toward Man Biking To Work In Snowstorm Goes Viral

WATERFORD (CBS DETROIT) - If you saw the snow coming down on Saturday and commiserated with friends about the hassle of shoveling it, you were lucky. Imaging having to bike miles in it to get to work.

According to Jason Kapoor -- that's exactly what Tony was doing this weekend on his way to work at Meijer.

Kapoor took a chance not many have the courage or conviction to do and offered Tony a ride when he saw him trundling through the white stuff -- six to 14 inches in some areas.

"I turned around and asked him if he needed a ride ... and he said "I'd love a ride" and when I asked him where he was headed, he said to White Lake Meijer (store) which is about a seven mile bike ride from where he lives," Kapoor said.

Tony told Kapoor that he's been biking to work for about five years because he can't afford a car. The majority of the family's income goes to toward his wife who is ill.

Kapoor says there is talk at Chrysler Jeep dealership of the possibility of contributing to the fund in a way that would help Tony -- with discounts and car warranties being mentioned.

"I left home when I was 15 -- didn't have the best upbringing -- I wouldn't be where I am now without the help I've been given," adds Kapoor.

Kapoor posted his story on Facebook Sunday and it's taken off.

Now there is a GoFundMe account set up for Tony to buy a car. By Monday morning over $8,000 had been raised.
