#ChadTough's Chad Carr Dies At Age 5 After Battle With Brain Tumor

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - Former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr's grandson Chad — who has been battling an inoperable brain tumor — has died.

The 5-year-old boy was diagnosed 15 months ago to the day and had recently been placed in hospice care.

Using the hashtag #ChadTough, people across the area, and the country, have rallied around him on social media, raising money in his name to fight cancer and offering emotional support to his family.

The boy's parents on Monday posted the heartbreaking news on their "Pray for Chad" Facebook page, thanking supporters and asking for continued prayers.

"At 1:21 pm today, exactly 15 months since his DIPG diagnosis, Chad gained his angel wings. He left the earth peacefully and is now running and jumping in heaven. It is well with his soul."

Speaking live on WWJ Newsradio 950, the voice of Michigan football and a friend of the Carr family, Jim Brandstatter talked about what a great young man Chad was.

"His name will go on and live forever, and it's just wonderful that the community has come together and honored in such a way, and I just think it's remarkable," Brandstatter said.

Chad's death follows news that his story will be featured on ESPN's College GameDay on Saturday. He's been supported by University of Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State. Both the Spartans and Buckeyes wore unique helmet decals to honor him last weekend.
