Woman Accused Of Fatally Shooting Husband Held On $750K Bond

MOUNT CLEMENS (WWJ) - A 61-year-old woman who told police she accidently shot her husband in the chest is being held at the Macomb County Jail after being charged with his murder.

A judge on Saturday set bond at $750,000 for Julie Kay Chimelak, who is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearm in the death of her 75-year-old husband, Ronald George Chimelak. She's scheduled to be formally arraigned on the charges on Monday.

Police say Julie Chimelak called 911 around 4:35 p.m. Wednesday and said she had accidentally shot her husband inside of their home in the 20200 block of Nicol Creek Drive, in a neighborhood near Hall and Heydenreich roads in Macomb Township.

Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene to find Ronald Chimelak on his bedroom floor with Julie Chimelak at his side, attempting to perform CPR. They also located and recovered a Smith & Wesson, six shot, .357 caliber revolver from the bedroom.

Paramedics transported Ronald Chimelak to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He had a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The shooting remains under investigation.
