Governor Orders Flags Lowered To Honor Detroit Firefighter
DETROIT (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags lowered to half-staff at the Capitol and other state government buildings in honor of a deceased Detroit firefighter.
Sgt. Vincent Smith died Nov. 19 after he was found unresponsive at a fire station. He was 49.
The flag lowering is Monday. Flags should be returned Tuesday to full-staff.
Snyder says in a statement that "firefighters choose to work in a stressful and dangerous field, putting themselves in harm's way to protect" families and communities.
