Coat, Blanket Drive For Homeless Kicks Off In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A coat and blanket drive for the homeless is kicking off in Detroit.

An event for The 32 Degrees Coat and Blanket Drive is Friday at Team Wellness Center in the city's Eastern Market area.

Coats and blankets will be collected in the lobby between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Donations will be accepted around the clock at Mariners Inn, located in Detroit. Supporters also may help pay for coats that transform into sleeping bags.

Coats and blankets will be distributed Dec. 18 with the help of the Homeless Action Network Detroit, Mariners Inn, Gateway Community Health, Stonecrest Hospital, The Empowerment Plan and others.

The 32 Degrees program also provides transportation to shelters. Organizers say other coat and blanket drives are planned next year.
