Dozens Gather To Remember Boy, 4, Killed By Pit Bulls

DETROIT (AP) - Dozens of people have gathered to remember a 4-year-old Detroit boy who was mauled to death by pit bulls.

The Detroit Free Press and WDIV-TV report the candlelight vigil was held Saturday evening for Xavier Strickland on the city's west side, near where he was dragged away Wednesday by the dogs.
Lucille Strickland and her son were walking to school when the attack occurred. Strickland says she tried to protect him but couldn't.

Those at the vigil prayed, sang and shared stories about the boy who was described as happy and spirited.

Police killed three dogs and seized another.

Authorities say the dogs' owner has been taken into custody but hasn't been charged. Prosecutors say they have received a warrant request but the case is under review.
