New Michigan Website Launched To Help Senior Drivers

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and other top Michigan officials plan to help launched a new website designed to help senior drivers.

A Monday news conference is planned to the unveiling of the Safe Drivers Smart Options website. It will give information and resources to aging drivers, their family and friends, and doctors and caretakers.

Johnson's office says that Michigan has one of the oldest populations in the U.S., with 14 percent of residents age 65 or older. The website will provide resources to help aging drivers safely maintain their independence and transition to alternative transportation options when it is time to give up the keys.

Others expected to attend the event include the Michigan State Police director, a Department of Transportation administrator and a driver rehabilitation specialist.
