Consumers Warned To Discard Some Foods From Onaway Company

LANSING (AP) -- State officials are warning consumers to discard some food items sold at a number of northern Michigan farm markets.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said Friday the products came from Lock Stock and Barrel Ranch of Onaway.

The agency says inspectors found that the items were manufactured without safety controls needed to prevent botulism, a potentially fatal form of food poisoning.

Among them were soups, salsas, pickled vegetables and spaghetti sauces in glass jars.

In addition to the company's store in Onaway, the foods were sold at markets in Rogers City, Posen, Indian River and Gaylord.

No illnesses from the items have been identified.
