M-1 Rail Could Officially Be Named 'RocketRail'

DETROIT (CBS Detroit/AP) -- Billionaire Dan Gilbert's Quicken Loans is set to unveil the name of the currently under-construction street railway project in downtown Detroit.

After postponing the revealing of the name a few weeks ago, Quicken has trademarked the name RocketRail, according to Crain's Detroit.

"Quicken trademarked the name Dec. 3, saying Rocketrail involves "transportation of passengers via rail.""

"The naming selection is going to be part of a larger announcement in early 2016 and, as we indicated when the announcement was postponed prior to Thanksgiving, there are many steps involved in selecting the name and we are still in the process of completing those steps," project spokesman Dan Lijana said

Quicken was awarded the naming rights after donating $10 million to the $140 million project.

The 6.6-mile roundtrip route will extend from the downtown riverfront to Detroit's New Center Area.
