Man Says It's 'Awesome' To Donate Kidney To Fiancé

DAVISON, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A Flint-area woman found a perfect match: a future husband -- and a new kidney.

Monica Towns of Davison has renal disease and needed a kidney transplant. Doctors discovered that the best candidate was her 25-year-old fiancé, Jacob Pierson.

"Once we found out he was a match, they went a step further and said, 'Not only are you a match, but you're a perfect match,'" Towns told The Flint Journal.

Pierson said being the best match for his future wife was "awesome." The kidney was transplanted to the 21-year-old Towns on Dec. 23.

"It was a blessing I was able to be the person to do it," Pierson told the newspaper.

Towns, a recent college graduate, said she's grateful for Pierson. The kidney won't cure her disease but it will give her a chance at a normal life.

"He has just been on board for whatever he needed to do," Towns told the newspaper. "To have Jake be able to go through a couple weeks of pain and give up and organ for me -- it's completely selfless. He's just an amazing person and I'm lucky to have him."

Towns and Pierson plan to move to Phoenix in spring and get married next fall.
