Livonia Police ID 3 People Killed In Head-On Crash Along 5 Mile Road

LIVONIA (WWJ) - Police have identified three people who were killed in a six-car accident in Livonia.

Police say 80-year-old Joseph Sito, 67-year-old Suzanne Wernette-Robb and 88-year-old Bernadine Karby, Wernette-Robb's mother, were killed in Monday's crash.

According to police, Sito was driving westbound on 5 Mile Road around 3:37 p.m. when his vehicle crossed the centerline near Levan Road and crashed head-on into Wernette-Robb's vehicle, which was heading eastbound.

Police believe Sito had medical condition which contributed to the crash.

Karby, of Livonia, was declared dead at the scene. Sito, of Livonia, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Wernette-Robb, of Redford, was also taken to the hospital, where she later died.

Four other vehicles were involved in the crash; a family in a mini-van had minor injuries.

Five Mile was closed at Levan for several hours while authorities conducted an investigation. Livonia resident Mark Harris described the hectic scene.

"Six cars involved, starting from the intersection, going eastbound about 70 yards. And there's two cars in the intersection, there's another two cars up at the BP, and then another two-car broadside accident right in front of it," he said. "There's like three accidents…at one scene."

The incident remains under investigation.
