Seven People Caught Drinking Underage When Police Respond To Break Up Fight

TROY (WWJ) - Police were called in the middle of the night to break up a fight at a home in Troy and ended up ticketing seven people for underage drinking.

The incident unfolded around 2:45 a.m. Sunday when police responded to a home in the 4000 block of Wentworth Avenue, near Wattles and Coolidge, on a report of a fight in progress.

Officers knocked on the front door and were greeted by a 19-year-old who initially allowed them to enter the home. But police say the teen quickly "had second thoughts as the first officer walked in" and then tried to push the officer out of the door. At that point officers placed the teen under arrest for assault and battery of a police officer.

Officers apparently could also smell the odor of alcohol emanating from the teen as he spoke, and they advised him he was also being arrested for consuming alcohol while under the age of 21.

Police say six other people in the home -- all under age 21 -- were also found to have alcohol emanating from them as they spoke. All six submitted to a preliminary breath test with results of: a 20-year-old with a BAC of .18 percent; an 18-year-old with a BAC of .18 percent; an 18-year-old with a BAC of .15 percent; an 18-year-old with a BAC of .13 percent; an 18-year-old with a BAC of .11 percent; and an 18-year-old with a BAC of .10 percent.

All six people were issued misdemeanor citations for consuming alcohol while under the age of 21 and released.
