Tips Sought In Dog Attack At Washington Township Park

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Macomb County authorities are looking for a dog owner who allegedly fled the scene after her pit bull attacked a smaller dog and its owner.

Sheriff's officials are looking for witnesses to the incident Wednesday afternoon in Gilcher Park, on 29 Mile Road in Washington Township.

A 67-year-old Washington Township man told deputies he was walking his small Havanese mix, shortly after 1 p.m., when a second dog — described as black and white pit bull — broke away from its handler, ran up to his dog and attacked.

That's when, the man said, he lifted his dog to try to protect it and the other dog jumped on him, biting him and dragging him off his feet.

The man said he and the other dog's owner, a woman, were able to separate the animals and the two agreed she would follow him home so they could report the incident. Instead, the man said, the woman got into her car and drove away.

The man was treated by EMS and later saw a doctor about bites to his hands, sheriff's officials said. His dog was taken to a vet.

Sheriff's investigators are now looking to speak with the dog owner who fled. She's described as a white female, approximately 60 years old, and wearing a multi-colored coat. She was driving a tan SUV, possibly a Chevy Equinox or a Buick Rendezvous.
