Caldwell Reportedly To Meet With Quinn Monday; 'It Doesn't Look Good For Him'

A decision on Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is coming soon.

With the Lions officially hiring a new general manager - Bob Quinn - the next item on the agenda is figuring out if a coaching search is on the horizon. Caldwell went 7-9 in his second season in Detroit, after taking an 11-5 team to the playoffs last year.

All along, Lions president Rod Wood has said the new GM would make the decision to retain or fire Caldwell. The two will reportedly meet Monday.

Quinn will address the media for the first time as general manager Monday at 2 p.m., although it's unknown whether he'll have made a decision on Caldwell at that point.

Several teams got a jump on their head coaching searches last week. Seven NFL jobs were originally open, although the Dolphins have already hired former Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase to their open position.

Should the Lions decide that a new coach is necessary, it's possible Ernie Accorsi could help with the process. The former NFL general manager (for the Giants, Browns and Colts) helped lead the process that hired Quinn as GM. He is staying on with the Lions as a "special adviser" to Wood, even though the GM search process is complete. He won't have an office at team headquarters, but will be "available by phone."
