Winter Weather Advisory: Up To 4 Inches Of Snow Expected In Metro Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A snow storm is headed this way.

The National Weather Service is calling for a total of two to four inches — depending on where you are in metro Detroit — with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from midnight until 7 p.m. Tuesday for the entire southeast Michigan region.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Dave Bowers is predicting accumulation will be on the lighter end of that estimate...if that.

"We're definitely in a wintry weather pattern now, and the next storm is almost upon us," Bowers said. "It's a small system, but it is enough to cause some travel headaches here tonight."

Bowers said the snow wouldn't likely start falling until after the evening rush, so your drive home will probably be OK. Once it starts, he said, it's expected to continue most of the night.

The advisory covers Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

"And it looks like a one to three-inch event; I think generally an inch or two," he said. "I think three might be the exception. Somebody might get that...but certainly enough to slicken the roads and get the salt trucks out."

On the other side of this system, Bowers said, it'll be a blustery Tuesday, with cold ait, a lot of wind and few snow showers — but not much more accumulation expect until maybe later in the week.

Here's the detailed forecast from the CBSDetroit weather team:
