Bus Driver Who Fought 15-Year-Old Passenger Avoids Jail Time

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A bus driver in western Michigan has avoided jail time in connection with a fight involving a 15-year-old passenger.

The Grand Rapids Press reports that 53-year-old Alicia Miller was sentenced Tuesday and received credit for one day served in jail.

The newspaper says she was ordered to complete 56 hours of community service.

Prosecutors agreed to recommend no jail time as part of Miller's earlier guilty plea to misdemeanor assault and battery.

Miller was charged in May in the assault that happened last April on The Rapid bus near Union High School in Grand Rapids. Police say the fight started with verbal statements and ended off the bus. The fight was recorded by a bus surveillance camera.

Miller was suspended from her job.
