Man Accused Of Extorting Businessman With Wife, Stripper Daughter Takes Plea Deal

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit-area man accused of extorting more than $2 million from a businessman who met his daughter in a strip club has pleaded guilty to tax evasion and money laundering.

Terry Tackett of Westland has been in custody for nearly a year. According to The Detroit News, he pleaded guilty Monday in federal court in a deal that would cap his prison sentence at five years.

Defense attorney Todd Flood says Tackett wants to "move on."

The indictment said Tackett threatened to go to police in 2008 to expose a businessman's sexual rendezvous with an underage female and his daughter, Jessica Tackett. Authorities say the man had met Jessica Tackett during a "chance encounter" while she was working as a topless dancer.

According to the indictment, the businessman gave Terry Tackett more than $2.6 million in cash and checks from 2008 to 2012 to keep his secret quiet.

Tackett's wife Kim was charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice for her involvement in the scheme. Her case is pending. Jessica Tackett was also charged, but she died under "mysterious circumstances" last fall.

Tackett is set to be sentenced in April.
