Report: Tigers 'Considering' Cespedes, But Favored Signing Chris Davis
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- Known historically as big spenders in free agency, the Detroit Tigers continue to be linked to some big names this offseason.
Despite trading Yoenis Cespedes at the trade deadline last season, the Tigers have been rumored to be players in the pursuit of signing the 30-year-old left fielder.
MLB Network's Jon Heyman reported Monday that the Tigers are still considering offering Cespedes a deal, even though some in the organization wanted to sign Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis.
Davis, a first baseman, signed a seven-year, $161 million contract to return to Baltimore last week.
In 102 games for Detroit, Cespedes batted .293 and tallied 18 home runs and 61 RBIs. He won the Gold Glove award in the American League for his time with the Tigers in 2015.
After general manager Al Avila alluded that the team was done making big offseason moves, it was implied that the Tigers would use a combination of Anthony Gose, Cameron Maybin and Tyler Collins in left field and center field in 2016.
