Downriver School Bus Driver Charged With Assault On Students

ALLEN PARK (WWJ/AP) - A Downriver school bus driver has been charged with misdemeanor assault after authorities say he threw ice at children, injuring one.

Patrick Brennan, 63, was arraigned in 24th District Court in Allen Park Thursday on two counts: fourth-degree child abuse and assault and battery.

Wayne County prosecutors say Brennan became angry, got some ice from outside the bus and threw it at the Allendale Elementary School children who were yelling and misbehaving, Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said the ice hit an 11-year-old girl, who wasn't among the misbehaving kids, and it cut her face. She was treated at home where she was met by Melvindale police officers who reported she had laceration above her left eye and blood on her scarf.

Brennan was arrested later that day.

Judge John Courtright, Thursday afternoon, set bond at $5,000/10 percent and scheduled a pre-trial hearing for Feb. 1.

Brennan could serve up to 5 years in prison if convicted.

Allendale is in the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park School District.
