Check Flight Status Before Heading To Airport As Thousands Of Flights Canceled

DETROIT (WWJ) - Airlines have now canceled more than 6,000 flights as a major snow storm continues to bear down on parts of the East Coast. Blizzard conditions are threatening to deliver up to 30-inches of accumulation in some places.

Expect delays and cancellations at Detroit Metro Airport the next few days, as that massive snow storm bears down along the coast and mid-Atlantic states.

Metro Airport spokesperson Mike Conway says the most important thing you can do before leaving for the airport is to check your flight status.

"Check with your airlines, check your flight status before even coming to the airport - save yourself a trip -- just in case it is canceled - be prepared for the potential for a cancellation or a delay.

"Anyone who is flying in the next two, three days needs to really keep a close eye on their flight status," said Conway. "I would not recommend trying to call the '800' airline numbers because, this is a big storm and there are lots of people trying to call those numbers and you'll be in a long line."
