National School Choice Week: Are Your Kids In The Right School? It May Be Time For A Switch

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's National School Choice Week, which means it's time to celebrate all schools. But as WWJ's Laura Bonnell found out, it may also be a time to find a different school for your son or daughter.

If you're not happy where your kids are going to school, it's time to start looking.

Andrew Campenella, President of National School Choice Week, said there's little time to waste.

"What we want is parents to know that they have choices in the traditional public school system as well as charter schools, magnet schools, online academies, private schools and home schooling,"  he said.

Your kids might not be inspired in school every day but Campenella said if they're not challenged or inspired at all, it may be time for a switch.

"The first step is to talk to your kids. Talk to your kids about what inspires them, what motivates them to go to school, then visit the schools and talk to administrators and teachers, and talk to other parents," he said.

During National School Choice Week, schools are holding open houses, student rallies, fairs, roundtable discussions and more.
